The cathedral, which is of Norman origins, considering that the original structure was built between 1073-1085, was repeatedly damaged and restored over the centuries, undergoing a profound renovation in the XVI century. Its travertine front part, made of blockstones of different origins, shows the architectural lines related to the deep sixteenth-century restructuring, despite the evident architectural features of different periods. The stone entrance part, presumably, dates back to the XVIII century. It is round and it is adorned with a portal on which two Angels with the symbols of the Passion are carved. Recent restoration works have highlighted the date of 1734 written on the rear part of the entrance portal. Above it, in the central part of the façade, some statues stand out, presumably from the Norman-Swabian era. The central one represents the Redeemer, while the lateral ones (divided in the central part by two ornamental amphers,) refer to the Patron Saint St. Michele Arcangelo and St. Antonino Martire, who the cathedral is dedicated to. Inside the church, with a Latin cross shape and a barrel vault, some precious artworks are noteworthy: a canvas depicting the Madonna of Montevergine by Angelo Michele Ricciardi (1744) and a painting which portrays the Redeemer by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro; Saints marble and wooden statues like the one in polychrome wood dedicated to the Immaculate Conception (1762) and Santa Lucia by the baroque sculptor Pietro Nittoli from Lioni. The wooden crucifix located in the apse is also worth mentioning, at the foot of which there is the wooden choir of the XVIII century and the Sarcophagus dedicated to Nicola Cecere that his son Donato had erected in 1562.
